Land and Water Use
Wading Birds in Tyto Wetlands, Austrailia
Covering roughly 6% of the worlds terrestrial surfaces, wetlands are not only a vital link in the food chain but are also an important step in the circulation of water on this planet. Wetlands (swamps, estuaries, marshes and bogs to name a few) are important filters for the world water supply, cleansing terrestrial water sources as they flow into the worlds various oceans. Wetlands also serve as nurseries for various species of fish, reptiles and amphibians providing abundant food sources accompanied with extensive cover and protection from predators.
